What you need to know.
A photo can carry location metadata as well as visible clues. Removing location information does not remove an address, badge or document that is visible inside the picture.
02 / Check
Look before you act.
- Inspect the image itself for addresses, screens, documents and other identifying details.
- Review the photo’s information panel for a saved location. Check the exact file you intend to share.
03 / Do
Make one useful change.
- On iPhone or iPad, select the photo in Photos, tap Share, open Options and turn off Location before sharing.
- Use your device or app’s location-removal option where available. Choose a different image if visible details reveal more than you intend.
04 / Verify
Check the change stuck.
- Inspect the exported or shared copy, not only the original. Different sharing methods can produce different results.
- Check both metadata and visible content again. An empty metadata result is not a guarantee of anonymity.
